TALLSHIP
ADVENTURES - Where did it all start?
Tall Ship Adventures in
Australia probably started with the ancestors
of Henry James Ford who captained a tall ship
to Australia in the 1800s bringing the
first governor general of the state of Victoria.
Warren Ladd the managing director of Tall Ship
Adventures is a direct descendent of Henry Ford.
After arriving in Australia, Henry became involved
in interstate shipping in similar vessels to
the Derwent Hunter currently operating after 60 years
in the tall ship fleet. After retiring from trading
vessels Henry built and manned the cape Ottway
light house. Which is the first light to be seen
after the long journey across open ocean from
England. He manned this light house for 30 years
and in this time the light never failed.

Warrens father has owned
upward of 40 vessels, classic yachts and motor
boats. At an early age sailing was the familys
passion. Warren first started racing yachts from
the age of 10. From yachting to commercial fishing,
wooden boat restoration, and a keen interest
in Australian maritime history has lead to the
creation of Tall Ship Adventures. The company
has purchased and restored many fine Australian
timber vessels and prides itself in presenting
some of the finest Australian timber heritage
vessels in commercial registration in Australia.
Warren and his partners
have a commitment to preserving Australias
maritime heritage in working condition so that
generations of Australians and overseas visitors
can live the legend and get a hands on experience
aboard an Australian indigenous sailing craft.
