Best of the Week

14 October 2014

We’ve had another wonderful week in the Whitsundays, with weather to match. We excitedly got into our piratey best on the weekend with the news that Pirates of the Caribbean is likely to be filming the fifth movie in the series in the region next year.

We also had a special guest on board this week. We can’t say who or why at this point, just that he may or may not run a rather famous vet surgery in a beachside Sydney suburb… We can’t show you any pictures or video just yet, but stay tuned, we will show them as soon as we have permission.

Derwent Hunter on Pirate Alert

Captain Jack Sparrow could soon be sailing the Whitsundays, thanks to an announcement that the fifth movie in the Pirates of the Caribbean series will be shot in Queensland. The Derwent Hunter eco pirates are sharpening their swords ready for action and maybe a chance to audition! We had a fantastic day out in celebration, with crew and guests getting dressed up in their fiercest finery to hit the high seas.

Visiting Palm Bay Resort

The Derwent Hunter enjoyed a private charter to the picturesque Palm Bay Resort on Saturday. The ship is available for hire for private functions/weddings/family events from anywhere in the Whitsundays including the island resorts. The majestic ship provides a beautiful back drop to any tropical island photographs.

Turtle Crazy

It’s been another epic week of turtle viewing, with sightings of both green turtles and logger heads. Our “turtle whisperer” and go pro maniac, Brooke, has been busy recording some of the best footage we have ever seen. The best thing is, guests get the opportunity to take home the footage for a small fee via either download or USB, giving guests the chance to share and relive their bucket list experiences.

Brooke Nikora AKA The turtle whisperer

Brooke-Nikora-and-turtle-300x227Brooke joined our team this year to help document in film the spirit of adventure of tallship sailing to tropical island paradises.

Armed with a gopro and a snorkel, Brooke’s favourite part of the job is viewing the turtles at Langford Reef.

In fact she says her favourite thing in the whole world are turtles.

She loves helping new snorkellers in the water, and sharing the magnificent sights of our backyard whilst capturing guests’ once in a lifetime experiences.

Review of the Week

“I just wanted to say how much my family enjoyed our day out sailing on the Derwent Hunter. Your crew do a fabulous job and are a great advertisement for your sailing adventures. My two girls Sasha (10) and Poppy (5) especially loved the opportunity to talk with the Skipper and learn more about the history of the Derwent Hunter, especially Sasha as she had just finished doing a basic sailing course during the school holidays. We’ll definitely be recommending your tour for friends and family when they visit North Queensland.”
Kind regards,
– Col, Kate, Sasha & Poppy.
