We did it! Ecotourism award winners!
Derwent Hunter once again entered the Whitsunday Tourism Awards this year, and has come away with the GOLD win for Ecotourism! We’re thrilled to have been awarded this honour, as Ecotourism is at the heart of everything we do.

Queensland Weekender spent the day with us
Queensland Weekender Host Lee Carseldine spent the day with us recently exploring the Whitsunday Islands and learning about the heritage of the Derwent Hunter. We even sent him up the 62ft high mast to get a birds eye view of the ship and the surrounding area!
Not a bad view from up there, is it. Who needs a drone when you have this!
We love getting customers involved in the tallship sailing experience. It’s a big part of the Derwent Hunter day trip. Help us hoist the sails, and take a turn steering the ship. There aren’t many fully traditional tallships still operating in the world, so for many people it’s a once in a lifetime experience.
The finer details
Did you know the Derwent Hunter is still in almost original condition? Aside form a few necessary upgrades, all the original timber work and structure is as it was intended when it was built in 1946. Every year we spend a month or so out of the water maintaining the heritage aspects of the ship. It’s a rewarding task and keeps the old girl in tip top shape.
