To recognise 10 years of consistent eco accreditation from Eco Tourism Australia, Derwent Hunter has been awarded the ultimate honour, being recognised as a Green Travel Leader.
We work hard to ensure our environmental footprint is small, and strive to educate our guests on the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef and the marine ecosystem.
We are honoured to receive this new recognition and wear it with great pride.

“The first stop for snorkelling the reef was at a small cove and our boat was the only one taking people there so we had it to ourselves. We were given wet suits, masks, snorkels and flippers and taken by motor launch to the beach. My wife and I were virtual novices and so we tentatively set off into the water but soon got the hang of it and were floating around the reef albeit making sure that we were never too far from the shore or from the crew keeping watch in the launches nearby. It is all very safe and the crew are at pains to ensure that their charges are kept safe. The sea was teeming with fish of all sizes, shapes and hues and the coral was a stunning, pink, blue, white, every colour you can imagine and it comes to life as you swim by, swaying and shimmering in the sunlight. It was wonderful.”

“Really enjoyed our day out on the Derwent Hunter with crew Josh, Kelly, Fi. The tour was personal and we were lucky to have a small group. Crew were very helpful and professional and funny. The vessel is one of a kind and so worth it if you like sailing. This tour is in my eyes more personalised than others and takes you to the best reefs: Bali Hai and Longford reef sand back. Not all tour operators have access to Bali Hai so if you’re into snorkelling and like to see the cool stuff, definitely choose these guys. The food was great and the booking process was great as we made a last minute booking.”

“We had a great day out on the Derwent hunter. The 2 man team of captain josh and fi were excellent, they gave us lots of information about the area and the great history of the ship. We had lots of snorkelling time and plenty of tea/coffee available with biscuits and cake. Just what you need to keep the energy levels up. The lunch spread was also excellent with more than enough for everyone.
It’s a very relaxing time on the boat as it cruises quietly through the beautiful waters, and you can try your hand at hoisting up the sails. This company also volunteers a lot of there time to surveying the coral reef to help keep it alive which is very important.
We loved this day trip and would recommend it to anybody. If your only in the area for a short time. Do this trip, you will not be disappointed.”

School holiday fun is coming!
With school holidays once again on the horizon, we are looking forward to welcoming families aboard for some pirate adventures on the Derwent Hunter.
Derwent Hunter is a family friendly day out, ideal for kids of all ages with a sense of adventure. We have a great family deal of $525 for 2 adults and up to 3 children.
How we keep the kids entertained:
- Play at being Eco pirates for the day
- Receive a special Tallship Certificate at the end of the day
- Fun temporary pirate tattoos
- Kids snorkelling gear and buoyancy vests available
- Best of all, it’s not just a heck of a lot of fun, it’s also educational.
